Licking County was formed in 1808, but was officially but wasn't officially incorporated under the State of Ohio until 1833. Newark is the county seat. There are a total of 5 cities and 11 villages located throughout the county's 25 townships. A number of unincorporated communities can also be found in Licking County, along with many ghost towns.
