The Issue or The News-Issue
The News-Issue, or The Issue, was a a short-lived Newark newspaper that ran in the early months of 1888. Unlike many Newark papers of the nineteenth century, the News-Issue supported Republican candidates and platforms. [1] . It's motto was "Protection to home labor," reflecting a protectionist economic philosophy championed by the national Republican Part during the period that promoted tariffs and limits on international trade. [2]
The first News-Issue likely ran on January 26, 1888, taking up the standard of the Newark Banner. [3]The new owners and proprietors, Harris and Lewis ran the paper until at least March 13, 1888 when record of its existence ends.
The Licking County Library holds seven issues of the newspaper, running from January 26 to March 13, 1888 in its collection.
