The Runaway School was located on Marion Road southwest of Homer, on the stretch between Bash Lane Road and Bennington Chapel Road in Bennington Township. The story behind the school’s name is very interesting. Apparently, the families who would be using the school couldn’t agree on its location. When it was built, only half of the people believed it should have been built there. Late one night, a group of men went to the school, jacked it up, and moved it to their preferred spot. The next morning when the children went to school, they found that it wasn’t there! The school remained in that spot and was not moved back to the original location. [1]
