Monticello was established in the early 1800s for canal construction workers helping to build the Ohio & Erie Canal. Monticello was located at the southern edge of Millersport and in 1825, a road was formed to connect with Lancaster, Ohio. Some records indicate that a post office was built for the town between 1827 to 1833. Today, nothing remains of Monticello. [1]
