This brick schoolhouse was built in 1886 and served as a learning center until 1923. In 1991, members of the “Friends of the Cornell School” raised enough money to move the building four miles, relocating it from its original location on Duncan Plains Road between Alexandria and Johnstown. It now stands in front of the [[Johnstown Monroe Local School District | Johnstown High School. In 1996, the building opened as a history center where visitors can learn about early public education.</ref>L.B.
