The Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County (C-TEC), located on Price Road in Newark, had its start in the 1973-1974 school year as a vocational school under its previous name -- Licking County Joint Vocational School.

LCJVS was developed from programs offering vocational training at Heath High School. The enrollment was growing as the program offered vocational courses to other Licking County students in exchange for tuition. After passage of a school funding levy in 1971, a new facility was constructed but was not quite ready for students in 1973. Until the new facility was ready later that school year, those first students began their vocational education at the Newark Campus of the Ohio State University and Central Ohio Technical College classrooms.

The school has expanded its programs, increased its enrollment , and developed relationships with many employers in Licking County. It also added and increased its course offerings for adult education. As the school grew, it changed from one of training students for specific vocations to an educational center to prepare students for entry to college or a career. The name of the school was changed to the Career and Technology Education Center or C-TEC in 2005 reflecting the school’s change in focus and growth. In 2006 its size doubled as a new building was added to the campus.

Thirty-six new classrooms were also added to the original building. By 2009 many adult education classes had been added to the curriculum and C-TEC joined the University System of Ohio.[1]
