Ben Jones

Ben Jones was a resident of Licking County, OH and local historian who wrote numerous sketches documenting the early history of Licking County.

Ben Jones was born July 5, 1865 in the Welsh Hills between Newark and Granville, OH. His parents were Hiram and Elizabeth Jones. Ben also had a brother William Harvey Jones. Over the course of his life, Ben had several professions including teacher, surveyor, and farmer. He taught in many districts including Granville, Goshen, and Fallsburg. He had a passion for local history and wrote daily historical sketches that were published in the Newark Advocate newspaper.

He had a wife Gertrude, and five children including 2 daughters and 3 sons. Ben died December 30, 1947 at the age of 82. He was buried in the Welsh Hills Cemetery. [1]
