Liberty Township

Liberty Township is located in the northwest quadrant of Licking County and bordered to the north by Bennington Township, to the east by McKean Township, the south by St. Albans Township, and to the west by Monroe Township. Liberty developed later than many other county regions, retaining an aura of wildness into the later nineteenth century. The presence of moundbuilder activity in the area was limited, with a single mound in the township. European settlement began in the 1820s and in 1827 Liberty Township was created by dividing Monroe. [1] A small village called Concord once existed in the southeastern corner of the township. The small municipality was founded in 1832 by a Reverend Owens and David Adams. [2]
Liberty Township had a population of only 753 people in 1880. By 2010 the number had increased to 2,360. [3]
