The Buckeye Lake Beacon published their first newspaper on May 4, 1996. The free paper was delivered weekly to over 8,000 homes and to more than 50 retail outlets in the surrounding area. As of 1996, the Beacon offices were located on State Route 79 in front of the former Paddlewheel Restaurant. The paper promised that eventually the office would be moving across the highway to be in the Blue Heron Boardwalk.[1] The Buckeye Lake Beacon replaced a previous publication named Lake News, which only ran six times during 1984. Their motto is “to provide accurate and as complete as possible information on an issue. Then it’s up to you to reach your own opinion.”
