Irma Hawkins was a portrait artist from Alexandria, Ohio. She specialized in oil painting, but she also worked in pastel, charcoal, and watercolor. Her murals were commissioned across the country, and her paintings were shown in galleries in Newark. She began painting more during World War II when she had more time after her coworkers went on strike. Once her children graduated from high school, she began teaching art lessons at the Alexandria Public Library. Hawkins and her husband, Earl, had six children together. [1]
