George Arensberg

George Arensberg (March 21, 1935 - February 21, 2012) was a painter, etcher, and art teacher from Newark, Ohio. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Arensberg specialized in portraits and etchings for gravestones. As an artist practicing realism, his work has even been compared to that of Norman Rockwell. He was married on November 10, 1981, to Mary Katherine Gartner. Arensberg used his skills to impact the community in many ways. During his residency in Newark, he painted several murals for local businesses. In the late 90’s, Arensberg illustrated Pauline Baca’s children’s book. He even completed a 6-foot-wide engraving of the “Last Supper” for Hahn-Miller Memorials. Some of his engravings are on permanent display at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Memorials for 9/11 and the Challenger Space Shuttle were also commissioned pieces by Arensberg.
