  • 1802: William C. Schenck laid out “New Ark,” which was changed to “Newark.”
  • 1802: First white baby in Newark was born, Sarah Johnson, on December 6th.
  • 1806: First mail delivered from Newark by road.
  • 1808: Newark became the county seat of Licking County when it was first formed out of Fairfield County.
  • 1809: First Court House built in Newark.
