The Gaffield Schoolhouse was constructed in 1830 at the intersection of Outville Road and Morse Road, south of Alexandria, in an area that was once known as the town of Gaffield. The schoolhouse was used as both the first school and the first church for the area. In the 1880s, the schoolhouse underwent several renovations, which included leveling the floor and lowering the windows, which were originally too high to see out of if you were standing inside. The school remained active until around 1940, even after the town had dwindled. Unfortunately, the old schoolhouse fell victim to time and neglect and is no longer standing. [1]
