The Central Ohio Technical College was established in 1971, as an addition to the Ohio State University at Newark campus. During the first year, 114 students were enrolled in the school. Since then, over 10,000 students have graduated from the college. Today there are four locations of the Central Ohio Technical College: Coshocton, Newark, Pataskala, and Mount Vernon.[1]
The Central Ohio Technical College has long prided itself on the flexibility of its classes. Many classes are offered early in the morning or late in the evening so that older students have a better opportunity to attend. The college recognizes that many students are working on changing career fields but still need to be able to work as they earn their degrees. The college even offers classes in highly sought-after fields, such as Diagnostic Medical Sonography, which is unavailable in many areas of Ohio.[2] In the mid-1990’s, COTC added a new two-year program to prepare students for entry-level social services positions.[3]
