Gertrude Dorsey Brown was a noted author of short fiction.  Born in Coshocton, OH in 1876, Gertrude spent the majority of her adult life living and working in Newark before coming to her final rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery in 1963.  Her life was steeped in the art of writing, serving as a representative of the Black-owned Cleveland Gazette newspaper, a teacher, and an author of short stories in the national publication, Colored American Magazine.
